"Social leaders represent the strength of the communities and it is with them that we build a country. We want to protect them and make visible the effort they make for their community, "said the Minister of the Interior, Nancy Patricia Gutiérrez, at the end of the session of the Timely Action Plan in Territory, PAO, which took place in the municipality of Riosucio, in the department of Chocó.
"We have been aware of the clashes between the ELN and the Gulf Clan, which leave the civilian population exposed. The humanitarian crisis that Riosucio faces today derives from this dispute. The presence of our Public Force in the territory is fundamental ", concluded the Minister, after listening to the territorial authorities and the community.
She reiterated the importance of this department for the President, Ivan Duque: "The President asked the High Commissioner for Peace, Miguel Ceballos, and I to arrive at the Atrato and San Juan rivers to generate protection conditions" and announced that this Saturday, May 25, the Head of State will sanction the National Development Plan in Valledupar: "from that moment we must initiate all the necessary actions to reach the territories," she added.
The Minister highlighted this working session in Riosucio and reiterated that "the Timely Action Plan is just a space for articulation of all entities to be able to come up with approaches and solutions for social leaders and human rights defenders."
To this session of the PAO, led by the Ministry of the Interior, also participated the High Commissioner for Peace, Miguel Ceballos; the director of the National Protection Unit, UNP, Pablo Elías González; the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Alberto Brunori; the member of the Peace Process Support Mission, MAPP-OAS, Juan Carlos Roncal, delegates from government entities, territorial authorities and the community.
