The Minister of the Interior, Nancy Patricia Gutierrez, announced the strengthening of the Ministry for the management of prior consultations in the country and the attention of a large number of requests for consultations that are being received.
"It is a strengthening of the Prior Consultation direction in order to have more trained personnel who can be in the territory talking with ethnic communities, carrying out the projects and, above all, being guarantors of the rights of ethnic communities," explained the Minister
She added that "to the extent that we have an entity that can respond to the communities and the private sector, as the processes will be streamlined, they will become more efficient and there will also be a follow-up to the commitments acquired with the communities."
The Minister announced that this strengthening will be formalized through a decree. President Iván Duque is expected to sign it before the end of this year and the actions will be implemented since January 2020. She stressed that there will be an administrative strengthening of the structure and there will be no modifications to the protocols of the previous consultations.
This announcement was made within the framework of the Oil and Gas Summit, held in Bogotá with the presence of the main actors in the country's energy mining sector.
