"We are here in Cauca, with the Ombudsman's Office, the General Prosecutor of the Nation and the General Attorney’s Office, to ratify that we need to find security spaces because the Government is interested in the indigenous people," said the Minister of the Interior , Nancy Patricia Gutiérrez, to the indigenous authorities of Cauca in compliance with the commitment acquired in the 'Building Country' workshop, the Minister of the Interior, Nancy Patricia Gutiérrez, arrived in Popayán to address the situation: “President Iván Duque asked us to resolve the situation, talk with indigenous and territorial authorities. We want to know how this coordination of actions can be generated between the State and these authorities. It hurts us when they kill an indigenous, a social leader, a leader community, a human rights defender. It hurts us and we know that the State is obliged to guarantee its protection”, she reiterated. At the end of this visit, the Minister announced that “we will continue in permanent meetings with the indigenous authorities. Next week they will be in Bogotá and we will review the pending issues with the established work plan”.
